cPanel Manual Backup

How to get a manual backup of your website using cpanel and the file manager in cpanel.

First of all you need to login to your cpanel account with the username and password supplied when you signed up to our services (with can also be found by login to our client area site at www.myclientzone.co.uk).

File Manager Backup Instructions

Once logged in to cpanel please do the following to get to save and download a backup of your sites pages and content hosted on our servers:
1)    Find "File Manager" (you can search this in the top left of cpanel)
2)    Once you have clicked on file manage (opens in a new window) you need to go to the folder "public_html" or "www" (both and the same root folder for your sites files and content).
3)    Select all in the root folder (hit select all in the top menu, should be near the right).
4)    Click “Compress” which is just above the “Select all” button.
5)    Once compressed find the file you saved (name.zip, the default name will be that of the top/first folder you selected), now you can either
a.    Double click to download or
b.    Use the “Download” button on the top left of the manager.

That’s you all done, you should have now saved your download on your PC (default location for browsers such as Firefox are “C:\Users\YOUR-USER\Downloads”.

This process can also be done on most ftp software but we only supply the instructions for the cPanel File Manager as all ftp software is different.

2)    Click “Upload” which is in the top menu on the left hand side.
3)    Find your backup.zip on your home machine and add it to the upload list.
4)    Once uploaded the file manager will say 100% next to the uploaded file’s’. Now you can close this window and go back to the file manager.

6)    This will give a small in screen popup of the files extracted. Once you have that click close and your files should all be on the server again.

Now to move on to the Database backups from cPanel:

You first need to go back to your main cPanel home page and then search/look for “phpMyAdmin”, click it and again as with the file manager it will open in a new tab/window (depending on your browser).
1)    Click the database in the left column for the one you wish to get a backup for
2)    Click “Export” in the top menu (around the middle)
3)    Scrawl down to the bottom of the page and make such to tick “zipped” or “gzipped” (both will do the same job but I personally use “zipped”)
4)    Click the “Go” button on the right and you’re done.

As with the File Manager the database download should auto start and save to your default download folder.
